What is Dimar?

Dimar is a world created by Dee Dreslough. "Dimar" are dragon-like creatures who possess the technology to improve themselves by using genetic engineering, fly using the magnetic fields of their world, and speak using telepathy. They have an advanced culture which includes many arts and crafts, such as Planetary Defense, Firefighting, Farming, War, Art, and many more.

Dimar live in Barryds, which are a collection of plants and animals all working in concert to provide a stable, self-sustaining ecosystem that supports all. Barryds tend to evolve into large cities over the course of thousands of years. The Barryd plant can be expanded to meet the needs of its residents. Each Barryd is run by a Matriarch or Patriarch, and a system of Alcolytes, who oversee various areas of Barryd life.

How do I find out more about Dimar?

Pretty simple, actually! The best way to immerse yourself in the World of Dimar is to read the book! You can find it at www.dimar.org. You can also buy the book (which is a more edited and final version than the website version), and find out about Dimar Clubs and Groups on the 'net, all on that site.

However, if you don't have the time to read the entire book, then the quickest way of getting yourself friendly with Dimar is to simply read the Prolog and the Glossaries. They cover enough detail to give you a basic understanding of the world.

One other site which you may find of interest is Dee's personal website - www.dreslough.com. Dee is an excellent artist, as well as an excellent author, and there's a LOT of art on her site - all free! She's also written art and MUSH tutorials for those who need a little help.

Why was Dimar created?

What better way to answer that than with a direct answer from Dee!

"It all started when I got tired of participating in a certain Fandom. (Fandom is when you write about another author's characters.) When you write fandom, you don't own your work. The author who made the original series does. The rules are often very strict for how you can write in another person's world, and you can't distribute your work publicly or sell your work.

"So, bored, I sat down and in 3 years off and on managed to write my first novel, Dimar: Lost Waters. (Or just Lost Waters...I'm not settled on the title yet). It was pretty good, but not perfect (as most first novels tend to be). So, no publishers would take it as it was. It seemed like a waste to just keep the book under wraps with the hope that some day, some publisher might take a shine to it after I edited it. I wanted everyone to see what I'd made! And, since I loved fandom writing, I wanted to have a new group of people to share stories with, but without all the headaches of 'Owned Fiction'."

Can I write/draw/create stuff based on Dimar?

Simple answer: YES!

But, check out Dee's FAQ/Terms of Use here: http://www.dreslough.com/main/deefaq.htm

Additionally, if you are creating works based on other people's ideas from the MUSH, you should seek their approval first.

I have a Question?

Dee's a busy person, so it's probably better if you ask the question either on her Yahoo! Group, Telminka Barryd, on the MUSH's forum, which she reads periodically, or just email her. You can find these links on the "links" page.

If you have a DimarMUSH question, you can reach the team from the "Staff/Contact" page. We're here to help!
